Royal Caribbean has announced that negotiations are underway for construction of a sister ship to Oasis and Allure of the Seas.
Richard Fain, Royal Caribbean International, Chairman and CEO said in a statement “The Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas have proven themselves to be exceptionally attractive ships by generating the highest guest satisfaction ratings in the fleet coupled with very compelling financial return.
He continued
Ordering another such ship for delivery in 2016, at a lower cost, with better energy efficiency is very consistent with our balanced goals of prudent growth, return improvement and debt reduction."
Oasis and Allure of the Seas are joint world’s largest cruise ship. They each weigh in at 252,282 GT and have space onboard for 6,296 passengers and 2,394 crew members.
The official announcement came in the company’s third-quarter earnings release, in which the cruise operator said profits had dropped year-over-year. But executives said they were encouraged by recent price increases and cost savings and raised full-year projections.
