The Balmoral is the largest and newest cruise ship in Fred Olsen’s four-ship fleet. She is named after the Scottish home of the Royal Family and mixes contemporary features with traditional rituals. She is still smaller than most cruise ships today, but has 710 cabins and suites and generous public space for the 1,300 guests on board. As such a prestigious cruise ship, the Balmoral upholds her reputation by remaining quite reserved and mature. It's a traditional cruise, that is proud of British history and this theme flows throughout the ship, perfectly complementing a relaxing and quiet cruise, without the need for modern frivolities.
The ship was given a major refit before sailing under the Olsen flag for the first time in 2008, which gave the cruise line room to add a sparkling pool deck, new cabins, suites and fresh public spaces, such as the fleet's first-ever British pub. Her casino was also stripped out and the resulting space allowed the ship to build in an internet café and an excellent library. Balmoral offers plenty of features and amenities while also presenting a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. Dining is resolutely traditional as the ship's one main restaurant and two satellites all offer set-seating, set-tablemates evening scenarios.
Blending the boundaries between entertainment and relaxation, the Fred Olsen Balmoral prefers quality over quantity and ensures each of its facilities is perfectly polished. That means that whether you need a light snack or a filling evening meal, every dining area will do more than enough to accommodate your needs. The Marquee Grill Bar, for example, offers sumptuous snacks in the sun, while you relax back and let the day drift by. There are three principal dining venues on Balmoral which all offer great cuisine and friendly service. The first of which is Ballindalloch, named after the Speyside village and castle, is a quintessentially traditional cruise-ship restaurant, while the two other formal restaurants are Avon and Spey , named after two of Scotland’s most beautiful salmon rivers, were added during the refit and feel considerably more sleek and sophisticated
Entertainment on the Fred Olsen Balmoral is strictly mature but also bursting with pride and quality that will continue to bring you back again and again. There is a comfy pub with occasional live music and comedy, and the Neptune Bar acts as the lounge of the ship with regular live music, cabaret shows and of course, a full range of your favourite tipples. However, for something a little more relaxing you can just choose to drift away with a cool drink and spectacular seascapes in the Observatory Lounge. With '60s and '70s themed nights, graceful ballroom dances and all kinds of shows going on, the Fred Olsen Balmoral has something for everyone.
