The elegant Azamara Journey offers a traditional cruise experience in a more intimate environment. Following a major refit in 2007, there are now 32 suites, rather than 48 cabins, and a new bar on the aft deck, which is the ideal place for sipping cocktails and watching the sun go down. This refurbishment also delivered ship-wide Wi-Fi access and the Cova Café, which has become a popular destination for those who prefer to enjoy a late calm breakfast.

With only 694 guests, and one staff member for every two guests, everyone onboard Journey enjoys a personalised experienced, with butler and concierge services in every stateroom. This is a liner that is enticing to the most experienced travellers, with its focus on fine art, sculpture and photography. It is typical of the passenger list that the beautiful library onboard is much used, and that the jazz lounge often gets more business than the casino.

Journey offers an extensive spa program, with an emphasis on relaxation, where you can seek tranquillity in expert hands. Treatments range from therapeutic massage and skin-tingling facials to aroma stone therapy and reflexology, including some that many cruise travellers will have never experienced. To stay fit on your vacation, guests can also enjoy swimming pools and fitness facilities, such as weights, various exercise equipment and a jogging track which encircles the upper level of the pool.

Gourmet dining takes place in the main dining room and in the ship’s two specialty restaurants, Aqualina and Prime C, all of which feature cuisine made with the freshest ingredients. Live music whilst you eat is the kind of touch that makes Journey a real pleasure to sail on, as is the range of visiting entertainers who come on board in various ports to give a taste of local culture and traditions.

Journey is scheduled to dry-dock later this year to receive even more renovations. Interiors will see new carpets and upholstery and all cabins will receive new mattresses and upgraded veranda furniture. The pool decks will be resurfaced with new sun loungers and pool towels, while the spa and fitness centres will be enhanced with a new steam room, showers and cardio equipment.
